That's a hard one. It's been a while since <i>Diplomatic Immunity</i>, but I vaguely recall liking it a bit less than the others. Otherwise I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favourite. <i>The Warrior's Apprentice, Komarr</i> or <A Civil Campaign</i> rate pretty highly though. You may be right about an older Miles. He seemed to have achieved his happy ending in <A Civil Campaign</i>, and it just seems strange to think of him as married and with children.

But many authors seem to have natural maxima (not all but many). I think <i>Paladin of Souls</i> may have been LMB's. <i>Curse of Chalion</i> and <i>Paladin of Souls</i> were brilliant but I was distinctly disappointed by <i>Hallowed Hunt</i> or at least by the ending.
