Well, to be fair, if you were reading A Fine and Private Place this would indeed be understandable. I don't think I've ever managed to get through that oe without putting it aside.

On the other hand if it was The Last Unicorn, doing so will be met by the sound of a mighty tsk-tsking and the soft weeping of a spider.
