A certain chain of shops is having a half price boot sale at the moment, so I bought two pairs of boots today. Now I have four pairs. One pair I have had for years, and like very much, but have never been entirely happy with the heel. The other pair I bought earlier this year at the spectacularly bargain price of $40 (marked down from $240!). Sometimes it is nice to have small feet. Mostly it is annoying as most stores only stock the majority of their styles down to a 6. I can wear a six in some styles (sizing seems to be a bit haphazard for shoes in this country), but I'm really more of a 5 or a 5.5. I have never worn these newer boots for longer than about 5mins because it was too hot in summer, and then there was the ankle. Unfortunately they have stupidly high heels (higher than anything I have ever worn before), and I'm not sure I could totter to work in them. Which is a shame because they are rather nice otherwise.
Anyway, the pairs I bought today have rather more sensible heels. One pair is suitable to wear to work. The other perhaps a bit too S&M for the office. Plus it hurt my ankle just putting them on (I didn't even try and walk in them), so they will have to wait a while. The ankle is mending slowly (annoyingly slowly) but I am doing things on it now I could not have done a week ago (like an inordinate number of standing poses in yoga on Thursday).
I like boots.
I also like my reproduction of the effigy corset, which I have finally, finally, finally finished sewing the boning channels on. It has only taken me about nine years (working on and off - more off than on really)! In my defence having babies does kind of get in the way of corset making, and there are around 140 boning channels, all sewn by hand. I have also sewn the bits together, and surprise surprise it does not exactly fit me anymore. Actually it's not too bad. It's a teensy bit too big, but some of this may get taken up by the boning when it goes in, so I am not going to start refitting just yet. However I suspect the chest will need a reasonable amount of work. It takes a lot more careful fitting to get my breasts to stay where they are told these days. I bet that's creating some interesting mental imagery....
I have some 2mm cane that I bought yonks ago to bone it with, but I suspect I am instead going to go and get some of that thick plastic stuff you can cut into strips. The boning channels are a lot narrower than the sizes of most commercial boning.
On Thursday I spent the morning at Liam's kindy for a Mother's Day event. It might have been a lovely day but Liam was in a bit of a funny mood and was not really getting into it. He does not like changes to his routine, plus he has not been eating breakfast lately (this morning it took him 2.5 hrs to eat about 1/5th of a crumpet) which did not help. Nonetheless he made me a lovely necklace out of pasta :-).
Happy about the boots, happy about the corset, but the kids have been driving me nuts today, and TTP was absolutely mad (we only figured out that it was probably because of Mother's Day when we were leaving). Honestly, it was about as bad as it usually is at Christmas. And Woolies only had four checkouts open. Anyway, I'm hoping for a nice day tomorrow.
