Last night I was having on of those 'I am a terrible parent' moments. Erin has been sick most of the week with a throaty, chesty cold sort of thing. She was quite feverish on Tuesday when I came home from work. We have been keeping her home from school, which is doubly annoying for her (she is not the sort of kid who particularly enjoys missing school) because it is swimming lesson week. But this is doubly the reason why we are keeping her home. She might be okay with just normal lessons, but sitting in the swimming pool half the day is not so good when you have a cold on the chest.

Anyway, she seems to have given it to Ashwyn, or he has got something, because when I came home yesterday he was feverish, and Andy said he'd been throwing up (the hall carpet still smells like vomit), and he was very floppy and subdued. Then when he was in the bath I noticed he was all spotty all over his tummy and back, little red spots. Andy thinks he has chickenpox. I don't, quite aside from the fact that he has been immunised against it. It might be heat rash from being feverish, but it has spread a bit today, so that seems unlikely too.

Anyway, so then, in the usual wrestle to get his vest on, I scratched his eye. I felt bad enough about that. Then we had to try and give him some panadol. Ashwyn hates taking medecine. So this involved me holding him pinioned while Andy tried to tip medicine down his throat, and he gurgled and spat and dribbled it into his ears and his hair, and all over me (infant panadol is sticky!). Having got about 10% of it in, and the rest all over us, we tried again, this time with Andy doing the hogtying, and me trying to squirt some in with a syringe. Same result, if not messier. I laughed, because what else can you do. Then Andy got cross with me for laughing, and I felt even worse. So then we gave up. But today he saw Andy with the syringe and ran away screaming. I think we have scarred him for life.

And to add insult (plus extra injury) to injury, yesterday he was also beaten up by a little girl who scratched him rather nastily on the face and arm.

And apparently today Ashwyn escaped from the house, and through the fence to next door (they are doing a lot of work next door, including pulling down the fence), where he stamped all in some fresh cement that had been laid in the driveway. Now his shoes are all covered in cement, and the workmen from next door are none too happy with us. He is still Dangerbaby.

But today was just so nice, sunny with just a little bit of breeze to take the edge of it, and then there was yoga, and I am feeling rather less dire.
