So yesterday I noticed that the grapes were being eaten by the birds, which means it is time to pick them (actually it means they are not quite ripe enough for people, but just ripe for birds, but since we aren’t going to eat them I figure it doesn’t matter too much). And I will point out that is a 12l bucket in the photo. What am I going to do with them all? Good question. I am going to juice them. Whether they end up as grape juice or verjuice depends on how they come out in the end, as they are none extremely sweet and some still fairly unripe. Still I think I will be very busy the next few days picking and washing and pressing and…..would anyone like some grape juice?

grapes!

Also I should have kept my mouth shut about sleeping on Wednesday. We had another horror night with the boy, and then 1.5 hrs howling before he went to sleep on Thursday night. I thought we were done with all this. *sigh*

Today Andy and I went to see Avatar. I’m not too bothered about going to the movies these days for many reasons (I find two hours doing nothing but sitting in the dark somewhat of a waste of my time, it’s so dear, DVDs are so good, and I’ve always found so much nervous activity without any physical activity to be rather discombobulating), but I think I’m glad I saw it at the cinema. We did see it in 3D (Andy has also seen it in 2D and he said it didn’t add much). 3D is a lot better than it was the last time I saw a 3D film, which is probably about 15yrs ago, and Avatar used it a lot more subtly than the 3D ads which preceded it, but I think it’s still lacking something. It’s so obviously layers of 2D, it’s a bit like watching a moving pop-up book. I don’t think we’ll be buying a 3D television anytime soon.

As for the film itself, I did like it. It looked really fabulous, although there were a few things that niggled a bit. The Poet in my head thinks it would be quite marvellous to be a Na’vi, but then the Yorkshirewoman elbows her way forward saying ‘yes but only until you need the loo’….

On Thursday, by way of compensation for not having any sleep, I managed to buy $350 worth of shoes for $65. I like shoes. I like sales.
