Perils and pleasures
Dec. 13th, 2010 09:22 pmOn Friday we had a work Christmas lunch at Meza Lunga, a tapas place. It was expensive but very nice. And then I managed to get all my Christmas shopping finished afterwards.
Picked some beans on Saturday. Put the green (and yellow) beans in a stirfry and served the broad beans up with a roast dinner tonight. Yum. Beans are one of those things that you think are perfectly fine frozen until you have them fresh picked. Broad beans more so. There is a tomato (just one so far), plus flowers on the squash and capsicum. And about two dozen strawberries coming up on one strawberry plant (only one on the other which was rather strangled by the mint). Plus lots of rather enormous looking cherries and half a dozen small apples on the now definitely apple tree.
Last night I took my lumpy handspun thread and started crocheting with it, just making it up as I went along, and it's actually looking kind of ok. Picture below. I'm also starting to get the hang of spinning silk.

We put the Christmas tree up on the weekend too. Here's a slightly surreal picture of it:

The kids may have gone a little OTT decorating it. But then afterwards Liam said 'this is the most beautiful Christmas tree ever'.
And then yesterday Erin and Liam broke my laptop. Well, not broke broke, obviously or I wouldn't be here typing, but they damaged the connection between the body of the computer and the monitor so the display went all wonky. However I have discovered that it can be rendered functional by keeping the screen at a slightly acute angle, so all is not lost.
And all this wet weather is putting our grape vine in dire peril of downy mildew. It is very prone to it because of its position, and any amount of rain in summer is likely to set it off. Unfortunately once it sets in there is not much you can do to stop it.
And just now I nearly killed myself in a Mr Bean-like accident stepping in the potty.
