Free/cheap stuff
Mar. 21st, 2012 09:25 pmDid you know that if you live in Adelaide that AGL will send an 'energy advisor' to your house to give you advice on how you can cut down your electricity usage? Also they will give you free energy-saving lightbulbs. I think they will do this even if you are not an AGL customer (although you might expect some evangelisation in that case I would imagine).
Also for a nominal fee SA Water will send a plumber to your house to check for leaks and other water inefficiencies and install a water-saving shower head.
And you can get cheap massages at the Endeavour College of Natural Health on Currie St. The only catch is they are student therapists (albeit senior ones) and you have to fill in an evaluation form to help the students improve. But the cost is about 1/3rd the price for commercial massages.
Also the newsagent in Topham Mall has hard-copy edition (in a very nice binding) of the complete works of Jane Austen on sale for $30. And a book on historical rings for $100 (which is not cheap but is reduced from $300 and is a large book with many beautiful pictures - and I haven't spent much time standing there flicking through it :-) )
In other news I had a flu vaccination today and consequently have a sore arm. Although not as sore as it has been for previous vaccinations, so that is something.
And I am getting stuck into these online courses, so I might be a bit quiet for a while. The Probabalistic Graphical Models course is supposed to be 10-15 hours of work a week. We'll see how I go...
