No peace for the wicked
Jan. 14th, 2013 08:02 pmI went back to work today, which was actually fine. I find myself getting a bit restless and in need of mental stimulation after a certain length of time, and about three weeks seems to be it. The part I could have done without was getting into a holiday routine where I went to bed at midnight (or later) and got up at 8ish (or later). So suddenly having to wake up at 6: 30 am this morning was a bit of a rude shock.
I did realise this was going to be a problem, and tried to wean myself onto a more work compatible routine, but it just didn't take.
Also yesterday, in a final act of holiday frivolity, l dyed my hair purple. Well, not really purple. , in theory it is black with a blue-purple tinge, but since l have fairly light reddish brown hair it has come out a fairly dark red that, in some lights, looks very very purple. It is only a temporary dye, and they can be a bit variable so l don't know how long it will last. I don't care to try permanent at this stage because my hair is about a metre long. Since hair grows at about 1-2cm a month it would take me about five years to grow it out if I want to go back to my original colour (by which time it would probably be starting to go grey). And l'm not unhappy with my real hair colour. l just like a bit of variety from time to time.
In other news we bought Ashwyn a recorder. He expressed an interest in music lessons at school this year, and we managed to talk him down from a violin (it would be in splinters in days) to a recorder. Andy then made the mistake of getting the recorder early (school doesn't go back for another two weeks). The recorder is a big hit. He has been wandering around the house tootling tunelessly and constantly ever since.
