Nearly there...
Jan. 29th, 2014 10:13 pmToday we did the boys' room, and the linen cupboard. That's all the rooms in the house about 90% done, except for the kitchen, which we are getting the removalists to pack for us. So, tomorrow hopefully it will be going around dealing with all the loose ends. There's still a bit to be done in the boys' room, we haven't packed any of our clothes, or cleared out the bathroom or laundry cupboards.
Today:
4 boxes of linen
2 boxes of toys, games and jigsaws
1 box plus 2 plastic tubs of Dr Who memorabilia
1 skip full of rubbish, including the linen cupboard which pretty much imploded when we took all the linen out.
I should say a word about the linen cupboard. When we moved into this house there was no linen cupboard (there is none now). So we went out and bought one of those cheap, put it together yourself cupboards from Cheap as Chips or somewhere similar. I don't think this cupboard was designed to do heavy service as a linen cupboard. It began to disintegrate in fairly short order. One of the doors fell off. The back began to come away, which meant the sides began to bow out. This in turn meant that the little plastic widgets that held up the shelves became extremely precarious under the weight of towels and sheets, which precipitated a series of linen avalanches. Eventually we ended up with two fairly delicate shelves that we couldn't trust to hold more than pillow cases, and a big mountain of linen in the bottom of the cupboard that was prone to further avalanches if articles were not placed fairly carefully on top. There were a lot of things that we haven't used for a while because getting them out from the bottom of the mountain was just not going to happen. So happy to be moving into a house with a proper linen cupboard.
Tomorrow: the nerf arsenal, assorted pottering, figuring out how to manage with having to switch the fridge off on Friday when it is going to be 40C,
