The organisation of my brain....
Jun. 20th, 2009 09:33 pmI have just noticed that the three documents I have set up for my feast (menu, budget and research doco) are all in separate parts of my now very large SCA documents folder (which probably need separating into sections for food and garb, or feasts and classes or something). This is because they all have completely different titles, including one in which I call it a Royal Spanish Feast, and another where I call it a Spanish Royal Feast! Those who remember the ancient days of my desk in the physics department may not be entirely suprised by my having a rather haphazard filing system. Who would think in Myers-Briggs terms I was a J!?!?!
I have also been thinking about my historical recipe collection ie the Little Black Book (my corny line is that other people have LBBs for sex - I have one for food - but I realised recently that may not reflect very well on me ;-) ). This Spanish feast is going to add about twenty or more recipes to the LBB, and it is already hard enough to find stuff in there, rudimentary index or no. Plus it has never exactly been ideal as a recipe book, being a small hardcover journal style book which will not lie open and flat. I have one of those recipe folder things for mundane recipes, and I am starting to think maybe one of those would be good. But it would need to be quite large (as in have a lot of pages). And redacted recipe notes often have a lot more information along with them than just ingredients and method. There's the original recipe, maybe a translation, maybe three or four versions of a recipe, maybe feast quantities as well as 'ordinary' amounts. An electronic version is one solution I suppose, but I don't know if I care to mix laptop and kitchen. I am a messy cook!
Oh, and the modifications to the corset are done! It was a lot quicker than I thought it would be, mostly because I did not have to resew all the boning channels - just unpick them. Now I just have to sew it back together again, do the lacing holes, and the binding....
