Oh my boys, my lovely, crazy boys...
Jul. 27th, 2009 09:09 pmSo the last few days have been dominated by trying to over colds, by Ashwyn's new trick and by the enigma wrapped in a redhead that is Liam.
Ashwyn has taken great delight in his new trick of getting out of bed. The last three nights he has kept himself and Liam up past 10:30pm by getting out of bed, turning on the light, playing, annoying Liam, trying to get into bed with Liam and so on. We moved the furniture that was near the light switch so he turned it on using a (plastic) sword. So Andy took the light bulb out and he still got out of bed and rattled around and climbed up into Liam's bed. And of course, the same thing goes for his nap in the afternoon. Tonight exhaustion seems to have kicked in, and they are both already asleep.
None of which probably helped with what happened today, which was Liam getting sent home from school. It was only his third day! He basically acted up big time Liam style (which involves being completely resistant and uncooperative and finally hitting another student). The teacher had to drag him out of the library and then he pulled his pants down. He refused to stay in the classroom with the class. Liam has issues. He is quite bright - he is pretty advanced in early literacy and is good with numbers - but his social skills are non-existant. He has always been fairly content with his own company, so that universal limiter of 'I want people to like me' is just not there for him. He has been leaning that way a little bit lately, but he just has no idea how to go about interacting with people. And he is exceedingly stubborn (wonder where he gets that from). Which adds up to a boy for whom neither bribes nor threats are particularly useful at persuading him to do something he doesn't want to do. We do not yet have the key to Liam.
Anyway, the school suggested that he try half days for a little while to try and get him used to things at school, and if this doesn't work they will bring in a specialist. *sigh* He was the loveliest baby.
