Bursting out all over the place....
Aug. 5th, 2009 09:21 pmIt took me two hours to get home yesterday, apparently because there was a burst water main on Hackney Terrace. Thus not only was traffic in the city appalling (it took 20mins for the bus to get up Currie St), but the O-Bahn was inaccessible, and we had to go the long way round. Today, apparently, another water main burst on Hindley St. Maybe tomorrow the office will be under water, or perhaps it is only affecting streets that start with H (any bets for Hutt St tomorrow?).
After hearing the story behind their inception, I've been curious to read some of David Gerrold's Starwolf books for a while now. I finally got my hands on Blood and Fire the other day, which is the third in the series, but I thought 'what the heck'. I wasn't impressed to start off with, but I think the first few chapters suffered somewhat from my not having read the first two books. Then it got really good. Very good. But funnily enough, now I don't feel any particular desire to hunt up the earlier books, perhaps because I know how it all turns out. And I still think TOS was the best Star Trek :-)
