Okay, so it's slightly more than a week. ln fact, closer to three, but it has been a pretty mad three weeks, which is my excuse for not posting more.

So, what's been up? You'll recall that I've been involved in a recruitment process at work. There were some issues with the system (not ours - we have an external provider of electronic recruitment), so none of the applications appeared until the week the panel was supposed to be meeting to discuss shortlisting. Which wouldn't have been so bad except two days of that week I had to be out of the office at an offsite.

The offsite was the usual sort of thing -go to a hotel, discuss strategic directions, eat lunch. But we went to the Majestic Rooftop Garden Hotel on Frome St. I've always wondered if it really does have a rooftop garden. And yes, it does. And we had lunch out there, and I was attacked by a bird, which scratched me on the eyelid. It was just a tiny scratch, but it was quite mucky (birds are filthy, who would have known it), and I was worried for a while that it was going to get infected . Fortunately, nothing serious has come of it, but it was certainly a degree of added excitement that l could have done without. The irony is that I had woken up that morning with a bit of grit or something in my eye which was irritating it quite a lot. The bird attack made my eye water so much that it washed the grit out. So there was that.

Having been savaged by the wildlife l then had one day to read 55 applications, and then l had to get on a plane and fly to Canberra and spend a day discussing said applications. I finally got home at about 9pm that Friday night, whereupon my brother rang to tell me that my other grandmother (the one who didn't die in November) was gravely ill.

She died the following Thursday.

So that's the both of them in six months, more or less. It feels a bit like a whole layer of my family has been yanked away rather suddenly. l also feel bad because l have been thinking for a little while about making a trip back to England to see them, and now it is too late. I can't help thinking that if I had been a little more energetic about making it happen, l could have. But -it was always wait until the kids are a bit older, or we have a little more money in the bank...

In other news, l have also been doing quite a lot of gardening. To our surprise one of our tomato plants is not only still alive but still producing tomatoes. l have no idea if they will ripen in this weather, but I guess we will see. We have put in a couple more raises beds out the back, and planted lettuce and peas, and in the front l have been going mad with bulbs. I have planted daffodils, tulips, Crocus, ranunculus and anemones. I love bulbs. They are like garden surprise parties - most of the year nothing, but then come Spring - surprise! flowers! I also put in some carnation seedlings and scattered around a 'cottage garden' seed mix. l have no idea how much of that, if any, will take. It would be nice to have some poppies again this year, though. The heartsease l planted last year has gone to seed in a big way, so there will be lots of that again.

I also recently went back to playing Elder Scrolls Online, although there was a long, long drama involving our gaming laptop before I could manage that. I won't disturb you with that. I will go chase the kids off to bed instead.
