This is me winding my first lot thread off the spindle onto a bobbin. Actually I think it’s a missile from some kind of shooting toy, but it was a convenient shape and size to wind thread onto. I spun most of this thread over last weekend.
And this is all the thread wound on. As you can see it is rather bobbly and uneven. The grey bit is the leader thread used to start the spindle off.
These are my efforts since last weekend. The thread is much finer and more even, though there’s still the odd blobby spot. I’ve also made an effort to dress and wind on to the spindle in a more period fashion (modern spinners make a conical shape winding the thread on, as opposed to this sort of cocoon shape, and also tension the thread by passing it underneath the whorl as you can just see I’ve done in the first picture – although not correctly I should add).
