On Thursday night the whole mess of us (me, Andy, the horde, my parents, his parents, and his brother, basically all our relatives currently in the state) went out to dinner at the Grove Bistro at the Golden Grove Tavern. I thought, on the basis of the Yellow Pages ad it would be a slightly upmarket pub meal sort of thing, and it more or less was but was actually really really good. The service was good, the decor was very nice, they were really great with the kids, and the food was amazing. I had a religious experience over balsamic onions. Wow.
And then on Friday Andy and I went into town after work and bought me a new suit for my interview next week. Because, of course, looking fabulous helps you feel fabulous. Technically there is nothing wrong with my old suit, which I bought nine years ago now when I was first applying for jobs. Since I weigh the same now as I did then you would think it would still fit. And it more or less does, but the jacket feels like it is too big. I don't know if this is the style or the way I bought it, because I remember it as being a good fit. So anyway, now I have a nice new charcoal suit with a broad pin stripe. I had to take the hem up on the trouser legs (I don't get why they make the pants so long - and I have long legs for a short person), but otherwise it is very satisfactory. I really wish I was able to get back in heels. I think my ankle is almost up to it, and I suspect I could but would probably regret it the next day. I am really struggling with the urge to be fabulous vs the urge to do the right thing by my ankle.
Afterwards we went to dinner at Cafe Buongiorno's on Rundle St, only to find that it wasn't there anymore. It has been replaced by something called Brunelli's - which looked almost exactly the same. Being Friday night it was very busy and very noisy. The service was slow and rather surly, but once we ordered the food arrived in about three minutes, and it was really, really good. Andy had a religious experience over gnocchi. I would have had a religious experience over that gnocchi if it had not had mushroomy sauce on it. And I'm not a big fan of gnocchi. And huge servings. It was so good we felt bad we couldn't eat all of the large servings then staggered back down the mallwishing we hadn't tried quite so hard. We don't get out much by ourselves (or out much at all - hence the amazingness of going out twice in one week) so it was a pleasant evening. Except that my feet hurt by the end of it.
Mum and Dad went home yesterday. I think the kids had a marvellous time while they were here. They certainly wore each other out (no man feat with my kids). Now Andy only has one more week of the holidays to manage. Mum has been trying to persuade Erin to come up to Queensland by herself and visit them. You would think a kid would jump at a chance like that, but she is reluctant to get on a plane by herself.
Oh, and Andy downloaded the latest Dr Who episode the other day - 'The Planet of the Dead'. Pretty good I thought.
