More touristy stuff

Pretty brain fried tonight after doing what I actually came here to do and working all day. But then I was kind of tired yesterday too. It's all starting to catch up with me I think, and I'm beginning to look forward to coming home.
Anyway, yesterday I went to the Museum of Civilisarions and took a few pics, some of which worked out better than others.
The Museum of Civilisation is pretty much directly across the river from the parliament, except that side of the river is actually a different city called Gatineau, which is actually in Quebec. So not only does Ottawa have a passing resemblance to Canberra, but also to Albury-Wodonga (or possibly Ankh-Morpork).
And there are lots of big photos, so I'm putting in a cut...
So this is the back of the parliament as seen from across the river.

And the Chateau Laurier:

The main hall of the museum has a whole heap of totem poles (standing upright actually, not in a heap), along with some Indigenous houses, which apparently you can normally go inside, but which were closed when I was there

This photo does not really do it justice.
Some more Indigenous stuff:

They had many beautiful articles of clothing too, but for some reason I could not manage to take a good photo of them. The camera in my phone is distinctly temperamental (yes, yes a bad workman etc)
They also had a hall which tracked through the European history of Canada in a series of tableaux involving buildings and scenes set up as they would have been in the past. I took sporadic photos.

This is a 17th century street scene - the door on the right opens into a tavern.

A 19th century army officer's quarters

A Ukrainian church. This was a real Ukrainian church from the frontier, reassembled in the museum and reconsecrated so it is actually a functioning Ukrainian church and they still have baptisms and things in there.
Anyway, that will do for now. Time for me to sleep.
